FRIED GRAM/POTTUKADALAI CHUTNEY

Fried Gram/Pottukadalai Chutney is an easy lip smacking chutney variety. It is a popular South Indian chutney recipe loved by all . It goes well along with all south Indian breakfast like idli ,dosa rava dosa ,adai,vada etc.

Equipment

Ingredients
  

  • ¼ cup fried gram ( roasted chana dal )
  • cup coconut
  • ½ inch ginger
  • 2 green chillies ( add as per the taste )
  • 4 pinch tamarind
  • salt ( to taste )

For Tempering

  • 1 teaspoon oil
  • 1 tsp ( combination of urad dal, chanal dal, cumin seed, mustard seed )
  • 1 sprig curry leaves

Instructions
 

  • Gather all the ingredients .
  • Add all the ingredients altogether in an electric mixer.
  • Grind them into a coarse mixture. To it add ½ cup water and again pulse it for a minute or until desired consistency.
  • Temper the chutney with urad dal, chana dal, cumin, mustard seeds and curry leaves in a teaspoon of oil and is ready to accompany with any south Indian breakfast or snacks.
  • Today I served with Adai/Adai Dosa and it was delicious .

Notes

Use fresh Roasted gram .It gives beautiful nutty Flavour.
Can use either green chillies or dry chillies.
In addition to ginger ,you can add 2 cloves garlic in 1:1 ratio.
You can add more fried gram reducing the quantity of coconut or vice versa.However ,I like to add more coconut.
Add little coriander leaves when grinding chutney to get beautiful green colour.
Add chillies according to your palate taste.
