Dragon Fruit Coconut Panna Cotta in a Tart is a delectable dessert! Yes, silky smooth panna cotta in a crunchy crust is so delicious and delightful with subtle flavour.

Dragon Fruit Coconut Panna Cotta Tart

Basically Panna Cotta is an Italian Chilled Dessert popular throughout Italy, is easy to make with cream, sugar, vanilla and gelatin or Agar agar. Typically Panna Cotta is made with Gelatin (made from pork cartilage ). In this recipe ,I replace gelatin with agar-agar,a vegetable derivative suitable for vegetarians too.

Panna Cotta is also prepared with other milk such as,Whole fat milk ,Yogurt, Almond milk Coconut milk etc. It is a fancy dessert by it’s look and every spoonful of creamy textured custard of Panna Cotta perfectly matches any toppings like fresh fruits, crunchy Praline,Berry Coulis etc.

I love Panna cotta and have tried with almost all the fruits and served with toppings such as praline, berry coulis, caramel sauce, chocolate sauce etc. Dragon fruit is one fruit,I was longing to try with coconut milk and the wait is over. The combination is so different and I LOVE every bite or spoonful so much with home made pie crust . Home made pie crust is so easy and simple to make and it gives the best crust than store bought.

How to make Home made Pie Crust?

All you need is good Tart pan with a removable base or silicon pie mould,All purpose flour, cold butter, powdered sugar and ice cold water is all needed for pie crust ,which is easily available in pantry. Together add all the ingredients and gently rub with your fingers and when it forms a crumbly dough wrap in a cling wrap and refrigerate for an hour. After chilling time roll the dough according to pie pan size and bake it for 20 to 30 mins at 180 C. Beautiful crispy pie crust is all ready to fill Panna Cotta.

Baked Tart Crust

Secondly, making Dragon fruit Coconut Pannacotta is also a simple process. Boil full fat milk with sugar and cardamom and let it boil for few minutes. Add in coconut milk and stir for a minute. Now add Agar agar (vegetable derivative) and stir well. When it start to thicken strain Panna Cotta mixture to remove cardamom residue. Scoop out Dragon fruit and mix to the mixture . Panna cotta is ready to fill in Tart shell and go into the fridge.

Lets see how to prepare this delectable dessert with step by step preparation.

How to Prepare Tart Crust

Get ready with all the ingredients. Butter and water must be ice cold.

In a wide dry bowl add sifted flour. To it add powdered sugar and salt and mix well with a spatula.

Chop the butter into cubes and rub into the dry mix using finger tips. Since it is dry add a tablespoon of ice cold water and mix with the tip of finger until it forms a dough consistency.

Round the dough and fold it tight in a cling wrap and refrigerate it for an hour.

Take out from fridge and bring it to room temperature before using it. Roll the dough or press it into tart pan. I roll the dough on a cling wrap and transfer to the tart pan and remove cling wrap and trim of the edges. This measurement of dough yield one 9 inch pan and two small silicon pie mould.

Prick the dough with fork and fill the tart shell with any dried bean or pie weights to avoid dough rise( puffing) and shrinking of the tart.

Bake it with pie weight for 20 minutes at 180°C and then without pie weight until it is golden brown. Meanwhile lets prepare Dragon fruit Coconut Panna Cotta.
