Poached pears in red wine are the best way to have pears. This simple recipe is the easiest dessert to prepare for any party and, I’m sure it will be a show stopper.

Poached Pears in red wine is one simple yet scrumptious and elegant dessert . Why is it simple? Because Red wine is one main ingredient to poach the pears and this recipe can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated before serving. And while poaching in red wine with an inch of Cinnamon stick ,whole house is surrounded with fruity cinnamon flavour. No one would say no to this decadent simple dessert. For non alcoholic, substitute any fruit juice with honey ,sugar with a hint of any favourite spice for wine. You may get the taste ,but not the appetising beautiful red colour.

Poached Pears in Red Wine

How to make Poached Pears in Red wine?

Tender but firm pears is needed as it is to be boiled in wine for 20 to 25 minutes. Peel the pear and scoop the bottom to remove seeds . It also helps the fruit to rest in wine easily . Add red wine(your preference) in a deep pan which can hold the fruit and well immersed in wine on a low heat. To it add an inch of cinnamon stick and half cup sugar and stir well until sugar is completely dissolved. Now place the Pears in the boiling wine and let it cook on low heat. Turn the pears gently with a wooden spatula and make sure it cooks on all sides. When it is done switch off the heat and let it comes to room temperature. Refrigerate the poached pears in the same pan with wine and let the pears rest over night or few hours before serving.

Resting time helps the poached pears to absorbs the wine and become more succulent. Serving options are endless. You can pair with ice cream, whipped creams, crumble, short crust, crackers etc. Today ,I served with digestive biscuits as a base to hold the Poached pears with cinnamon flavoured wine.

Lets jump to the step by step preparation of Poached Pears

Wash pear with the stalk.

Peel the skin with a peeler and scoop the base to remove the seeds as shown.

In a wide pan add Red wine ,sugar and cinnamon and stir well on a low heat until sugar is completely dissolved.

Now add pear to the cinnamon wine syrup and and cover the lid. Let it cook for five minutes.

After five minutes with a wooden spatula gently flip the pears to the other side and let it cook for five minutes. Repeat twice until it is thoroughly cook on all sides.

It almost take 20 to 25 minutes to cook on low heat. Make sure the pear stalk remains intact. You can see the red spiced wine is absorbed and thick in consistency.

Switch off the flame and let it come to room temperature. Refrigerate the poached pear in the same pan with spiced wine so, it can absorb well and become more succulent.

Serve chilled Poached Pear in wine with ice cream ,whipped cream, crumble, short crust etc. I served it with store bought digestive biscuit as a base to the succulent pear and garnish it with mint leaves.
