Prawn fry/Fried Shrimp is an easy and simple recipe made with few ingredients in few minutes. Yes! making this recipe is so easy ,but cleaning and deveining consumes more time. Though it takes more time, it is worth to eat this delectable seafood which is healthy and scrumptious.

How to clean Prawns?

Any type of prawn would suit for this recipe but, the big Tiger Prawn needs few more minutes to get well marinated. For this recipe I have used medium size prawn and it barely needs few minutes for marination. Firstly, remove shell and wash well. Secondly, devein (a thin intestinal black tract present at the bottom) by making a small incision and remove the intestine. Some prefer to cook with shell without deveining but ,I learn to clean when I was young enough to handle with a knife. So, for me it is an easy process to clean the prawns if the quantity is less. More quantity makes me tiresome and of course it takes more time too.

How to prepare Prawn fry/Fried Prawn

This recipe needs minimal ingredients to prepare and if a ingredient is not available do not worry ! Cook with the available ingredients or easily alter with what you have in your pantry? It is so simple and just need ginger garlic paste,Home made Sambhar Powder (can use chilli powder ),Turmeric powder, little corn flour ,All purpose flour and salt to taste.Add all the ingredients to the cleaned Prawns and mix well until the masala paste is well coated. In a pan heat oil on a medium heat and fry prawn/shrimp for only three minutes or else it would be over cooked. Easy scrumptious Prawn is ready in just few minutes. Lets jump to the step by step preparation of Prawn fry/Fried Shrimp.


How to prepare Prawn fry / Fried Shrimp in step by step preparation

Clean and devein prawns well. To it add Turmeric powder, Home made Sambhar Powder Or Chilli powder, Salt, cornflour and ginger garlic paste. Mix well until masala mixture is distribute evenly.

Add little water and gently mix until the masala paste is well coated on each prawn. Let it rest for 10 minutes or fry immediately too.

In a pan add oil and fry prawn on medium heat. Fry for 3 minutes until it turns golden brown. Transfer on to a absorbent paper to absorb extra oil.

Easy, simple and yet scrumptious dish is ready to serve. Prawn fry/Fried Shrimp goes well as starter and also pairs well with Fried rice,Sambhar rice or Rasam rice. I prefer to have with hot Rasam rice and make the day meal simple with this simple easy Prawn fry.

  • ½ kg Prawns (medium sized)
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger garlic paste
  • 2 teaspoon Home made Sambhar Powder  (or) chilli powder
  • ½ teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Cornflour 
  • ¾ teaspoon All purpose flour 
  • ½ teaspoon Salt (or) to taste
