Rava Dosa is a thin crepe like Mangalore Neer Dosa. It is an instant mix and needs only three main ingredients to make this Restaurant style preparation.

Rava Dosa

Rava, All purpose flour ,Rice flour are the main ingredients for making this south indian recipe. Proportion of the three ingredients is main to achieve crispy crepe. You can prepare this recipe as plain dosa or can add vegetables like carrot or onion.

Types of Rava

There are three varieties of Rava and ,they are Bombay Rava/Sooji, Bansi Rava and Chiroti Rava . All three are different in colour and texture. Bansi Rava is made up of wheat and dark in colour. Chiroti Rava is just like Bombay Rava and widely used for sweets and snacks. Bombay Rava /sooji is perfect for this recipe to get thin crispy net Rava Dosa.

Rava Dosa Mix/Sooji ka Dosa

The beauty of Rava dosa is the pores forms while pouring the batter. The batter consistency is unlike regular dosa batter and has to be thin while pouring. I usually prefer tumbler for pouring batter. To make perfect crispy dosa , rava should be soft and so it needs minimum 30 minutes for soaking.

When making dosa, the tawa or non stick pan should be on high flame. After pouring the batter reduce the flame to medium low so, it takes time to cook to golden brown , crisp and netted rava dosa like Restaurant. Simple tricks and correct proportion is all needed for any dish to be perfect like Restaurant.

What are the Varieties of Rava Dosa?

Plain Rava Dosa, Onion ,Vegetable, Mushroom ,Paneer etc are different varieties .Be innovative according to your palate and make this simple recipe an amazing one with your wonderful experiments.

Here I’m sharing a big batch (2 kilos) of Instant mix ,which I prepared for my Son and Dotty who is in USA. You convert the measurement of ingredients according to your requirement. To the Dosa flour ,I add cumin and pepper powder and when making ,I added chopped chillies ,curry leaves and salt to taste. When preparing add oil or ghee and cook on low flame to get Golden crispy Dosa . Sambhar, Chutney or Idli podi pairs well with Rava Dosa. Lets jump to the recipe with step by step preparation.
