Homemade Scones Recipe

Homemade Scones recipe is a simple and easy recipe to make at home with minimal ingredients which are easily available in our pantry. Delicious Scones are soft inside and golden crisp outside . This is a basic scones recipe . It contains no egg in the scone dough and I can say it is an eggless version. But ,I do egg wash on top of scones before baking???? so, this is not an eggless scones recipe after baking????.. Honestly, egg wash gives the Homemade Scone the beautiful golden colour ,which I love always . If you prefer eggless homemade scone recipe ,You can milk wash scones and sprinkle granulated sugar to achieve golden colour.

Homemade Scones Recipe

This recipe I’m sharing is basic scones recipe .To the basic scone dough ,you can add fresh chopped fruits, dry fruits, nuts etc .The add on’s and flavours is individuals choice and palates taste . I personally prefer basic scone with a plop of butter and any Homemade Jam.

Do’s and Don’ts for baking perfect Scones

If you follow certain do’s and don’ts , baking scone to perfection is easy peasy .Firstly, measure all the ingredients perfectly . Secondly, don’t use soften butter. Cold butter makes scones rise higher and gives crumbly texture. And finally do not over – mix the batter. Avoid using food processor to mix scones. Gently work the dough with your hand (manual processor)????. These are the main points to be followed for baking a perfect scones.

How to bake perfect scones?

Sieve all the dry ingredients in a wide dry bowl. Add ice cold butter and gently rub with your clean palm. Then, using a fork add milk and mix the dough gently. Sprinkle all purpose flour on a clean kitchen counter and transfer the scone dough. Gently roll or pat the dough thickly to a rectangle shape and using a cutter ,press the dough to desired size. I used a round cutter or you can cut to any desired shape like triangle square etc. Egg wash or milk wash the scones and bake in a preheated oven (190°C ) for 15 to 18 minutes. Homemade Scones is ready to devour. I can’t wait scones to cool ,so I happily devour hot scones with a plop of butter and Homemade Jam.Isn’t it easy?

Notes

Avoid using food processor. Clean palm is the Best food processor for mixing the Scone dough.

Avoid over – mixing the dough . Too much mixing results to hard dense scones.

Scones can be of any shapes . Let your creative hands play with the dough without over – mixing.

Flour your hands when shaping the dough to maintain the shape of the scone.

Gently roll or pat the dough and do not try to compress to a proper round shape. This helps Scones to rise and gives a crumbly texture.

If you are adding add on’s like chocolate ,fruits or other sweet ingredients to the basic scone recipe, use less sugar.
