banana chocolate chip muffins on a server.

These moist banana chocolate muffins are our family’s favourite. Whenever I have excess bananas in my kitchen, my family eagerly waits for me to make these muffins. Although bananas are not the most popular fruit in our household, we all love these muffins. They are our go-to choice when we want a tasty treat.

I took inspiration from my scrumptious Eggless Butterless Banana Bread and Whole Wheat Banana Muffins to bake the ultimate breakfast delight. A freshly baked banana muffin is an excellent companion to a hot cup of coffee or a chilled glass of milk, granting a delectable and fulfilling kick-start to your day.

Ingredients Notes

The ingredients required for the recipe are simple and commonly found in every pantry. However, if any ingredient such as chocolate chips is not available, do not worry- check the substitution section for perfect alternatives.

Ingredients for making banana chocolate chip muffins on a table.
  • all-purpose flour– If you want your muffins to resemble those from a bakery, it’s best to use all-purpose flour.
  • banana– For the best flavour and texture, use ripe bananas. Overripe bananas with brown skin and soft flesh add sweetness and moisture to the muffins.
  • semi sweet chocolate chip– I use semi-sweet chocolate chips in banana chocolate chip muffins to subdue the sweetness.
  • egg– I use a medium-sized egg.
  • sugar– The natural sweetness of ripe bananas is usually enough, but feel free to add sugar to taste for sweeter muffins.
  • oil– I use vegetable oil. It helps to keep the muffins moist and light.
  • baking powder and baking soda– Make sure to use both the leavening agents are fresh, else the muffins will not rise.
  • salt
  • vanilla extract
