Are you bored with eating banana cake? Then this recipe is for you! This decadent apple banana chocolate cake is an easy, quick, super decadent and one-bowl cake recipe. The texture of the cake is moist inside and slightly crumbly outside. Finger licking chocolate frosting makes the cake super moist chocolatey.

Ingredients need for this Recipe

There is no need to buy fresh bananas or apples to make this recipe. Leftover overripe bananas, an apple, cocoa powder, cane sugar and regular cake ingredients are all needed for this one-bowl recipe.

How to make chocolate apple banana cake

It is an easy one-bowl cake that needs no fancy gadgets to whip the recipe. Just add cane sugar and oil together and mix well. Then add chopped apple and banana and mix gently. Add in vanilla essence. Now sieve cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, and baking powder, and baking soda altogether. Mix the dry ingredients gently with the spatula and transfer them to the greased loaf tin. Bake it at 180* for about 20 minutes or until the inserted skewer comes out clean.

Variations

As I love chocolate, I added cocoa powder. If you are not a big fan of chocolate, you can skip it and bake plain apple banana cake.
Stir in your favourite nuts, which add crunchiness to the cake.
You can stir in dry fruits as you like.
Also, try to experiment with any fruit with banana as the base fruit.
As I love vanilla flavour, my most bakes dominate it. You can add cinnamon or nutmeg, which pairs well with apple and banana. Feel free to experiment or mix match the flavours.

Let’s see how to make apple banana chocolate cake in step by step pictorial preparation

In a wide bowl, add cane sugar and oil and whisk well with a wire whisk.

I prefer apples with skin. As apple skin contains vitamins, try to retain them. If you don’t like them, you can peel the skin.

Add vanilla extract to the fruit mixture and gently mix it.

Sift all the dry ingredients into the wet mixture.

Use a spatula to mix the flour mixture. The cake batter will be thick. To loosen the cake batter, add full-fat milk and fold the batter until it is evenly mixed. Do not over-mix the cake batter. Meanwhile, preheat the oven at 180* C.

Apple banana chocolate cake batter is ready to go into the oven.

Grease a loaf tin or any round pan with butter and dust all-purpose flour twice. Transfer the cake batter and level the cake batter evenly.

Bake for 45 to 50 minutes or until inserted skewer comes out clean. Every oven is different. So have an eye after 30 minutes.

After baking, cool the cake on a cooling rack and demould. Let it attain room temperature.

As I was craving more chocolate in my cake, I frosted the cake with melted semi chocolate. You can frost it with chocolate ganache or can have it as it is.

How to store the cake

When you store it on the kitchen counter, store it in an airtight container(it should be completely cool). It stays fresh for two days.
You can freeze cake as a loaf or as slices. Wrap the cake with cling or aluminium foil. It stays fresh for months. Thaw the cake in the fridge or at room temperature before consuming.

How to serve apple banana chocolate cake

Serve the cake with a hot cup of coffee or milk for breakfast or serve just as a snack. It is perfect for school kid’s snack box too. Also, serve as a delicious dessert with a scoop of ice cream.

Notes

Use only overripe Bananas, which are high in sugar content and for their beautiful Banana flavour.
Apples should be crunchy in texture.
Feel free to experiment with flavours. You can substitute vanilla with cinnamon and nutmeg. It is purely optional.
If you do not have brown sugar, swap with regular sugar in the same quantity.
You can swap milk with warm water.

Ingredients
 
 

  • 2 Banana (over ripe)
  • 1 Apple (crunchy apple)
  • 2 cup All-purpose flour
  • 8 tablespoon Oil (flavourless oil)
  • ¾ cup Cane sugar
  • 3 tablespoon Cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup Milk (full-fat milk)
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon Baking soda
  • 2 pinch Salt

For Chocolate Frosting

  • ½ cup Semi-sweet chocolate (chopped)
