On a happy note my blog Plate to Palate has successfully completed one year ! I would like to thank all of my readers for your continuous love and support and because of you, I could complete this awesome one year of my blogging journey. I am sure you all will continue to support and motivate me throughout my journey, which will help me to give my best. On this special day as a token of love, I would like to blog Red velvet cake with sugar glaze frosting for all. Let’s see how to bake Red Velvet Cake with Sugar Glaze Frosting.

This Red Velvet Cake is super easy to make and its texture is super moist inside and slight crumbly outside. This cake needs regular basic ingredients for a cake, which is easily available in the pantry. Since it is red velvet cake it also needs red colour gel or liquid colour, little cocoa powder, cornstarch powder, buttermilk, and vinegar too. If vinegar is not available, you can swap with buttermilk. The presence of vinegar and buttermilk (acidic and alkaline mixture) makes cake super moist and delicious.

Why Cocoa powder is added in Red Velvet Cake?

To make authentic Red velvet cake adding Cocoa powder is must because, it imparts colour and as well the flavour. If you leave it out, you may miss the distinctive flavour of the red velvet cake.

Tips for Making Red Velvet Cake

Sift all- purpose flour, cornflour/cornstarch powder and cocoa powder at least twice without any lumps.

Use butter instead of oil. Butter gives moist texture and good flavour.

Do not add flour cocoa powder mixture all together into wet ingredients. Add I/3 at a time and gently fold the mixture.

Do not over mix the cake batter.

Add red colour gel or liquid according to the batter colour. Mix gel or liquid in buttermilk before adding it to the cake batter.

Finally, add vinegar to the baking soda and mix in the cake batter and gently fold the batter and transfer into cake mould or tins and bake in preheated oven.

How to Bake Red Velvet Cake?

Sift all-purpose flour, cornstarch/cornflour powder along with cocoa powder for two to three times and keep aside. In an electric blender or mixer grinder pulse sugar to fine powder as it helps to mix well with butter. In a wide bowl add room temperature butter and sugar and beat until it turns fluffy. Add red colour gel or liquid to the buttermilk and stir until it is evenly mixed. To the butter mixture add 1/3 flour and buttermilk little at a time and gently whip on low speed. Now add vanilla extract and gently mix for second. Finally, add vinegar to the Baking soda and when it starts to fizz add to the cake batter immediately and gently fold.

Preheat the oven and transfer the cake batter to any 7″round or square tin(I used silicon bundt mould)and bake it at 170 C for 45 to 50 minutes or inserted skewer comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let it cool on wire rack. When it is completely cooled drizzle sugar glaze and let it is set for few minutes. Now serve this cake as a dessert, breakfast or with evening cup of coffee.
